形態特徵

A large deciduous tree up to 10 m high.
Leaves subsessile or very short¬petiolate, membranaceous, oblong to ovate, 1.5–4.8 cm long, 1–2.5 cm broad, acuminate, glabrous or slightly pubescent beneath; lateral veins 3–10 per side.
Flowers purple or white in showy terminal panicles about 15 cm across, the panicles hirsute; calyx 5-lobed; petals 6, 2–6 mm long, white, unguiculate, wrinkled, the stalk as long as or longer than the lobe; stamens numerous, of 5–6 long and 12–14 short ones, the filaments slender, crooked.
Capsules ellipsoid, 6–8 mm long, dehiscing longitudinally into 3–6 valves; seeds winged.

分布

台灣 : common in forests at low and medium altitudes throughout the island.
世界 : Central China to the Ryukyus.
